Question:

What is causing my laundry to get stained?

I always wash my clothes with like colors: whites, very lights, lights and darks. For some reason, every now and then one of my very light or white laundry loads would come out with light grey-ish stains. What might be causing this?

- I considered bleach but it is not being used in my light loads,

- I considered the detergent but it is not being poured directly ontu the clothes

- I considered the fabric softener but I started diluting it and I still get stained clothes from time to time.

What can it be? Has anyone every experienced this?

  1. In 40+ years of doing laundry, I have seen a couple of different things cause this:

    1) Check the tags of your clothing.  Sometimes a manufacturer will use a cheap tag that is dark-colored but not color-safe, on a light-colored item of clothing.  It's stupid, but they do it.

    2) Check under the rubber gasket around the edge of the tub, especially if this is a front-loading washer.  Sometimes a dark colored small item like a sock from a previous load gets spun around to lodge under the gasket, and there it sits through the next load, doing just what you would expect of a dark sock in a load of whites or lights.

  2. This happened to me because my washer wasn't draining properly. Some of the dirty water was staying in the cycle. Someone had taped the drain hose to the drain and without air it won't drain completely. Make sure the hose from the washer can be lifted out of the drain pipe .

  3. I used to have this problem and I attributed it to hard water.

  4. ~~I had this happen all the  time with a Maytag washer I had. The softener was not releasing it at the right time, and  it spotted all our clothes. Same color stain you have too. Try using white vinegar in the dispenser (it softens clothes great), but you wont get the nice perfume smell like softener. Then see if it stops. Or you can use dryer sheets. Good luck, I never could get those stains to come out!~~

  5. before u put clothes in to the washer make sure u clean out the tub . with 409 or something then put your clothes in there. and clean the part where u put your bleach in to.maybe there is still bleach in the spot where u put your bleach at in the washing machine! just clean it all out and it should be fine
