Question:

What is causing my wheel to make noise while driving?

My front driver-side wheel is making noise while i'm driving. It sounds to be once per rotation. It is not present when the brakes are applied. I drive a '97 Chrysler Cirrus.

As for what it sounds like....hmm...i don't know how to describe it. It does NOT sound like grinding or metal on metal contact. Nor does it sound squeaky, at least not like how bad breaks sound.

Any ideas?

  1. brakes or wheel bearing?tie rod ends?ball joints?broken coil spring?could be a number of thingd.too hard to diagnose without being there to here the noise.take it to a shop and get it looked at.most shops do not charge for the inspection.be safe have it looked at.

  2. maybe you need to get your brakes changed, if your rotors are warped you can get inconsistent (a bit jerky) braking

  3. my front wheel makes a sound with every rotation.  in my case it''s the hub cap. son has ben a mechanic for 10 years and an instructor for another 10 years a two different automotive schools.  while you may be able to fix it it may be very difficult to figure out just what to do, if this is your problem.   i'm just letting mine go on, it's not worth the effort to fix.

remove the hub cap and see if the noise continues.

if it continues obviously it's something else.

    good luck to ya.

  4. to me it sounds like it could be a wheel bearing. if it's like a low pitched humming noise that would be more than likely a wheel bearing. but it could be that somehow your brakes are applied while you're driving. it also could be your C-V joints going out.

  5. it could be a warped rotor I've had bad rotors make noise when the breaks arent aplied. or it could be a bad wheel bearing.
