What is causing the precipitous drop in Canadian productivity?

Certainly, there is no such thing as a "root cause", instead, there are a series of factors. What are some of them, as it pertains to my question? Why is Canada losing its ability to produce? Incidentally, a great many "quality of life" indexes are falling in Canada.

The biggest market (USA) for their products isn't buying as much as they used to, due to the slow economy and the weak US dollar.
