What is causing this terrible pain?

For a few months, I've been having terrible pain in my back. On my lower right side I get a terrible pain that hurts when I sit, stand up, and even walk. It's a sharp pain. It gets so bad that I have a limp at times, I feel like an old woman. (I'm only 18). Earlier today, I was at the movie theater, and my lower right back starting hurting terribly, after a while. I also have pain in my middle back and have been experiencing numbness and pain in my feet. Does anyone understand why this could be happening?

  1. I had horrible back pains.  They were on the lower left side.   They would come on strong and then go away for days only to come back again.  Turned out to be kidney stones.   But at 18 you are probably too young for that.  I think you should see a doctor as soon as possible.  Pain is a sign that something is wrong and the longer you wait it could bring dire consequences.

  2. it could be a disc herniation.  Commonly associated with flanked pain and definitely numbness w/ or without pain to feet.  Without knowing what type of work/activities you do, I can't rule it in or out.

...or it could be kidney related, secondary to dehydration.  Possible to have right or left kidney pain which almost always radiates out and lower.

You know the deal though, nobody here is a psychic and diagnosing your problems demands diagnostic tests only an MD can order.

  3. sometimes your back can be stiff and tight... you should try going to a chiropractor.. sometimes your back will feel better.

  4. If this has been going on for a few months you should see a doctor.  You shouldn't handle it on your own.  It may only be an inflammation, but it could be something more sinister.  Your doctor may want to run some tests to determine the cause of the pain.  Promise you will go to your doctor as soon as possible.

  5. sciatica. nothing you can do about it. take an anti inflammatory and rest for a few days. perhaps lay on a heating pad.

  6. It could be that you sit for long periods of time eg. drivers, office workers.... or you might not drink a lot of water. Something might be wrong with your lungs I say you should go see a doctor! I know someone who drinks alot of coke like 4 cups a day and he had rocks in his lungs and he had similar pain to you.

  7. I'd go to a doctor.  that sounds serious.

Your kidneys are located in your lower back, but I'd bet it is a problem with your spine and/or nerves
