This was an running gag throughout the show, that no-one knew what his job was .Episodes like the one where they play the quiz to win the girls apartment feature it when the girls answer that  he's a transpondster.("That's not even a word!")

Just about the only time his job was actually given a title was when he went for the interview (season 8/21) .

Basically  I understood that he was a fancy corporate accountant.
