  1. TBS doesn't have any idea.

Very little happens on Christmas in Spain.

They celebrate on the day of the Kings...Epiphany, Jan 6.  And they don't give tons of presents like in the US.  They get a few small gifts, nothing as extravagant as all that.  Their traditional foods include a ring-shaped cake (I think it has a little coin inside, which is good luck, or a couple of charms, can't remember if that's in Spain or one of the South American countries) and Turrón is really popular this time of year.  It´s a candy made with almonds and honey, and it looks like a large chocolate bar in its wrapper.  Many

Americans are familiar with Toblerone bars.  They are made in Switzerland, but incorporate the Turrón candy into a chocolate bar.  very tasty stuff, which can, occasionally be bought at large supermarkets in the US.

They do play traditional Christmas Carols.  I remember thinking, as I walked through the shopping district in Sevilla in December, thinking how very sad that they were playing White Christmas on the PA system, and not only did NOBODY likely understand the song, but most of those people had never, and might never see a white christmas.

  2. I think the same as everywhere else with lights and christmas trees.

  3. On Christmas eve , people go to there family or friends home and enjoy a nice dinner with either alot of shrimp, pork , or turkey at around 10 pm... just enjoy each other company, and some people go to midnight mass like in almost every Catholic country....and then on christmas day people do a nice family lunch .. some people give each other gifts BUT its alot more popular in Spain to wait until Jan 6th the day of the Three wise men.. thats when everyone gives each other gifts.. thats why we have more vacation time , then other countries.. from dec 22-Jan 7th.. Anyway take care and Happy Holidays..

    Take care,

  4. SUE's right. there's a lot of traditional food (like turron and different kinds of marzipan). People celebrate with their extended families. Most towns put up lights in the streets. Children usually have to wait until January 6th to get their presents, that's Three Kings Day (dia de los reyes magos). People usually have a big dinner on the 24th and a big lunch on the 25th.

  5. It is just a celebration of Jesus...  Followed by the Three Magical Kings...

  6. SUE is absolutely correct.   TBS doesn't have any idea and neither do I since we don't celebrate christmas.   But since Spain is known as catholic you would think they celebrate it the same as in the US..

  7. Here in Málaga it was terribly terribly wet. Tiny bit of snow on the hills inland. Nice christmas trees and lights in the small towns though... more christmassy than I saw in england or germany. As far as I saw, TBS was absolutely correct.

On Christmas evening : a mass. On Christmas day: all was closed.
