Circumcision is a surgical procedure that involves partial or complete removal of the f******n (prepuce) of the p***s. The first evidence of circumcision comes from early Egyptian wall paintings that are more than 5000 years old.

About one-fifth of men worldwide have been circumcised, mostly for religious and cultural reasons when the procedure is commonly performed shortly after birth or around puberty.

Although adults are occasionally circumcised as an act of religious dedication, adult circumcision is most commonly performed for medical reasons

Reasons for circumcision fall into three broad groups:

1) for an immediate medical indication

2) to prevent future disease

3) as an act of religious dedication.

Although religious and cultural circumcision is frequently performed without anaesthetic as part of an important ritual act, it is an intensely painful procedure, even in newborn babies. Adults can testify to the pain for themselves and can give informed consent to the procedure. Infants, however, cannot. Physiological research has repeatedly shown bodily responses that indicate infants experience severe pain during circumcision.

It is difficult to justify subjecting infants to this experience when pain could be avoided with a brief general anaesthetic. Anaesthetic injections that numb the p***s or the whole genital region are not a reliable substitute for general anaesthesia. If circumcision is important for religious or cultural reasons, then the mohel, or other ritual circumciser, can still perform the procedure and prayers with the assistance of an anaesthetist and surgical team at hand. This practice may not be the traditional family gathering associated with circumcision, but would fulfil religious obligation without causing unnecessary suffering.

When circumcision is necessary for an immediate medical reason, the surgeon would be prudent to try to preserve as much of the f******n as possible, through some form of preputioplasty (a plastic surgery procedure that alters the shape of the f******n but minimises the amount of skin removed). Preputioplasty may preserve sexual sensation, although its advantage over circumcision is not yet established.

Circumcision is when the f******n is removed from the p***s.  Jews do it for religious reasons when their sons are 8 days old.  Muslims do it often a bit later, ages 4-5.

In much of the western world including US, Canada and many countries in Europe, it used to be done for hygenic reasons and to make masturbation more difficult back in the victorian era but after WW2 the numbers have gone down to almost nothing everywhere except the US.  They are also going down in the US, just not as fast due to doctors pushing the operation as medically necessary.  In some cases it is medically necessary but according to the European experience, that is a very small minority.  Growing up in Europe and being in different locker rooms with loads of guys, I didn't know one who was circumcised.

It's very hard to know which is better to be circed or not because most of the guys who are had it done so young they don't remember and the guys who aren't wouldn't know the difference either and most of the guys who had it done as adults did it because they had medical problems with their f******n so of course getting rid of those problems, they are very happy afterwards.  Frankly I don't think there could be that much difference but I am against infant circumcision same as I am against any other elective surgery on a baby.  They can do it when they are old enough to decide for themselves.

The preference of girls very likely depends on what they are used to so depends on what area you live in.  In 1995, the overall circumcision rates for newborns in the US was 64 percent and in 2006 it was 56.  In some regions it's as low as 33 percent, in some as high as 78.  In Canada the infant circumcision rate is between 1 percent to 33 depending on the province.

Most boys get it right after birth.  It's where they cut off excess skin on the top of the p***s.  There is a religion that doesn't get it though.

Every human male is born with a f******n on his p***s. It is a natural bodypart with many important protective, sensory and sexual functions. It is not "extra" or "excess" skin, we are all BORN WITH IT!

Any girl that cares whether her boyfriend has a f******n or not is shallow and immature, and not deserving of the boy! I am not circumcised and never had any complaints!

It's the removal of the f******n.  In infants, the f******n must be separated (ripped) from the glans before it can be clamped and cut off.  It's generally unnecessary and no medical organizations routinely recommend it for neonates.

When boys are born, there is some "extra" skin that covers the tip of the p***s. Circumcision is the procedure/process of cutting that skin off. As you'd assume, it hurts very much, but since it is done usually right after birth, the child doesn't remember at all. I think it is Jews that don't believe in circumcision. Most people do believe in it, however, for a few reasons including high-gene.

It is the removal of the f******n (the skin that covers the head of the p***s), usually done at birth, but can be done at any age. It is cleaner, healthier and looks better. The antis will tell you there is some great loss of sensitivity and that is just total BS! I was circumcised at 18 and when my boys (1&3) were born I didn't hesitate for a minute to have them circumcised! I know there is no downside, only a lifetime of benefits!
