Im flying to Italy with a group of friends from Germany, and wanted to know what would be a better airport to arrive at.

Does anybody have experience with one of the airports? If anybody has been there.. please feel free to give me any tips according to this trip! =)

  1. fiumicino aerport !

(fco)international aerport that 's what you need!

ciampino otherwise you feel lost as soon you landing.

have fun in my beautifu city like no others.

  2. MAROC!!! i'm surprised, you're a little bit off this time.

ok ciampino airport is used only for a limited number of flights.. it is very small and outside ROME..in fact the little town is called ciampino! however, nevertheless, it is very close! in ciampino most flights are only the low cost ones like ryanair, easyjet and the similar. the real, like official, serious, huge, nice and bla bla airport is the da vinci airport at fiumicino! this one is closer to the city, better connected and so forth. but, it all depends on your flight. if you are paying less and flying ryanair or something, then you will land in ciampino, otherwise its fiumicino. so dont judge your trip based on the airport, but on the flight, because both are pretty close, and pretty well connected (yes, one is better than the other..but its not this huge difference) and how much you save on the ticket may be worth it.

i also know for sure, that from fiumicino most usually get taxis.. and the typical amount is about 35-40 euros.. so watch out and dont pay more. also, most of them wont speak english. from ciampino you can take public for sure, and this wont cost more than  a euro or 2 max and im not sure about the shuttle buses but they will be maybe just a few euros more! and it will take you about a good hour to get to the center.however, if you are arriving late, public might be closed (at least the metros), you'll have to take only buses and this might be troublesome..waiting for them, knowing which number goes where etc. and the taxis cost more past a certain hour, i think its like 10 or 11 pm..  another good thing about the CIA is, since it is so small, there is little hassle, chances of getting lost, and it wont take you long to get your stuff and get out of there...

    ok, have a nice trip!!

  3. ciampino is closer but fiumicino is maybe better connected. there is a train from there taking you to various stations in the center. from ciampino you have to take bus+metro or bus+train or some more expensive buses that take you just to the center. if your flights are late at night fiumicino might be better because you would have less opportunities to get to rome.

  4. My husband and I flew to Rome from Frankfurt, Germany back in December. We took Ryan Air which landed us at Ciampino. Ciampino is not incredibly close to the city center but there are plenty of taxis and buses that will be happy to take you there. Taxis are there all the time but I think the buses stop running late in the evening. However if you take a taxi from Ciampino to the center of Rome be prepared to shell out around 75 euro. Good luck.

  5. The Ciampino airport is closer to the city center of Rome. The distance is 15,5 kilometers (~9,6 miles) and will take about 24 minutes by car.

The airport in Fiumicino is 31 kilometers (~19 miles) away and it will take about 33 minutes by car.

  6. I used the FCO several times.  I always hire a private driver from http://www.airportconnection.it.  They are clean, prompt, inexpensive, professional and friendly.  A great inexpensive B&B that is only 3 blocks from Vatican City is Alex's Bed & Breakfast www.abbcare.com.  Clean, very basic, safe, and friendly place.  About 70 Euro nightly for 2 persons.
