Where are you from?  What are you in? School, College,U or Home.

From all the answers given & seen, community service is limited to volunteer helpers only.  It should be more than that.  Will give you a concept of it in S'pore.

Community covers first, the area where you stay (village, town, constituency, district, etc).  It has a bigger sense that is the society and the country.

You help your residents in the area or the surrounding, the village, the town and so on.  We here has all these:

a) the Residents Committee taking care of 2000+ housing unit --around 10,000 people

b) The Community Centre or Club Committee for a whole constituency, about 30,000 voters.

c)  The Town Council covering 5-6 constituencies i.e. 6x30.000 = 180,000.

d)  The nation --approx - 4.7million in population.

We have committees to serve the whole community, the country and that is our community service.

I am Co-Chair for a March of Dimes chain reaction youth council. Our mission as a part of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, infant mortality, and premature births. We meet twice a month, from august to june, and are all high school students. We work to fundraise and advocate for the health of babies.

I volunteer at the soup kitchen in my area, once a week, two local nursing homes, a sandwich program, (make a sack lunch for the underprivileged) once a week..... teach young kids in the summer, this is on my time, no costs involved.

That is community service for me.

I work at the USO, Volunteer at my daughters' school, donate clothing toys and books to many organizations and recycle. More than that I am teaching my children to be charitable, ecologically responsible and generous. They in turn pass that on.
