  1. According to literature and the trials, that would appear to link to the 40-60mg range.

According to Eli Lilly's research.... "Lilly's own research studies later established that a dose of 5mg per day of Prozac - one-quarter of the recommended amount - was effective for half the people who took it." (Medawar p.147)

Cohen (2001) looked at one of Lilly's key dose studies (Wernicke et al 1988) and found:

    5mg/day - 54% response rate

    20mg/day - 64% response rate

    60mg/day - 65% response rate

So from that, the implication is that 20mg is four times the required dose for many people who respond to the drug.

So although you ask a straightforward question, the answer is anything but - particularly since the marketing push was for a one-size-fits-all dose (20mg) despite research indicating the effectiveness of a much lower dose.

  2. According to doctors, a high dose is 50mg or more. However each individual is different, so while one person can tolerate 40mg another may not be able too!

  3. anything over the recommended dose...

  4. A high dose for you or a high dose in general? I would not suggest more than 60 mg/day or 80 mg once a week.
