  1. Corrosion (note the spelling) is what happens when something hard, usually a metal, oxidizes or is chemically dissolved.  Oxidation is when a metal collects oxygen molecules and changes into something called an 'oxide'.  Iron oxide is more commonly called rust.  So when iron corrodes by oxidation, it 'rusts'.  Or, put another way, rust is what happens when iron corrodes.  

    Corrosion can also occur when something hard is put in a "corrosive" chemical, like an acid.  If you put a penny (a hard metal) in a glass of vinegar (which is an acid), the penny will corrode as the acid dissolves the metal.
