Corruption is, essentially, taking something and making it not function properly or as intended.  There are many types of corruption - political (paying a bribe to a public official to vote a certain way) , legal (police - paying a bribe to get out of a ticket/judicial - paying a bribe to win a case/prosecutorial - paying a bribe to derail a case), social (giving pornography to a minor), linguistic - (making the nonsensical term "irregardless" acceptable in the English langauge), data (missing a command or including a wrong command in a string), etc.

Corruption is when a government official gives a job or some other favor to one of his or her buddies, usually in exchange for some money.

For example, when a businessman pays a Congress man or a government official to propose or vote for some law that is favorable to the business, that is corruption.

Corruption is morally and ethically wrong. It is also often illegal, but that is often very hard to prove in a court of law. The corrupt are very clever at hiding their corruption.
