What is cost of living in Bordeaux per day and what's the weather like?

I'm planning to study abroad in Bordeaux and I heard it's really cold and rainy all the time and anybody who comes back from France tells me a cup of coffee cost twice as much as US. so I guess I'm wondering when is the best time to (Fall or Spring) in terms of weather? How much does it cost to live there? Is it better to go to Lyon or Toulouse (paris is not an option)?

You are right for the cost of your cup of coffee!

For the rest, weather can be very good in spring and summer, but the ocean is near and often brings showers.

Lyon is more continental (cold in winter and hot in summer), Toulouse is roughly the same as Bordeaux except that summer can be very, very hot.
