  2. THe previous answers are correct...but if you aren't doing some sort of rudimentary card counting when you play blackjack, it's almost like you don't understand the game.  If you notice that "wow...the last two rounds had almost no face cards...now I'll bet a little more"  THAT's essentially card counting at its most basic.  If you don't think so..let  a pit boss notive you do it enough times, then ask him.  Too bad he already has the dealer re-shuffling after every hand....

Counting cards in black jack refers to the fact that when there are more face cards the player has a better chance of getting a blackjack (which pays 3:2).  The simplest way is <8, +1  >8, -1.    In a single deck game raise your bet when you have a count 2 or greater.  That is the simplest.  check this web site and get an education

  4. "Card counting is a card game strategy used to determine when a player has a probability advantage. The term is used almost exclusively to refer to the tracking of the ratio of high cards to low cards in blackjack and its derivatives such as Spanish 21,[1] although it is sometimes used to refer to obtaining a count of the distribution or remaining high cards in trick-taking games, such as contract bridge or spades. This article deals only with card counting as it applies to blackjack and its derivatives."

  5. Because after each hand the cards are dealt from what is left of the original deck(decks), each hand effectively removes cards permanently fropm play untill the shuffle.  Some cards are beneficial to the player when they are removed, and some cards hurt the player when they are removed, this has to do with the fact that the dealee must play by a rigid set of rules.

Card counting in blackjack is a method of measureing what kind of cards and how many of them have been removed from the game as a means of measuring how the house advantage has been effected by their removal.  A small percentage of the time (about 20-30% of the time) enough cards have been removed to the extent where the player has the potential to have an advantage over the house.  It is up to the card coutner to determine how they bet based on this information and there are many playing styles and strategys.
