What is creme fresh?

I hear british chefs talk about it what do we call it in Australia< I have seen Gordon Ramsay&Jamie Oliver use it.

I think it is like a sour cream.

Creme fraiche is a less sour version of sour cream. You can easily make it yourself too with some buttermilk and heavy cream.
