  1. The Crime Scene is sealed off and forensic teams move in to investigate it for evidence.

  2. Just what it says, the investigation of a crime scene,  it is used to look for evidence of who committed the crime, even if its trace evidence like blood and fiber or a hair.

  3. It is the investigation of any crime scene, the preservation of the integrity of all evidence involved.

  4. A huge question. Simply, it's the examination of the physical scene to document and recover everything that might help show what happened and who did it. It is the recovery of evidence, not the actual analysis. There really aren't real life folks like the CSI characters who work the scene, do sophisticated scientific analysis, and then catch the crook. For the most part, you're either an officer, a crime scene tech, or a criminalist. Criminalists are generally specialists in one or two fields. Might be serology or latent print examination or toxicology or firearms. Oddly, though, you get close to the CSI character in some small agencies, if a detective is also an analyst of some kind.
