What is critical sociology?

I know it has to do with politics but can someone put it in easy terms to help me understand? Thanks!!

  1. The critical theories look at social problems from the perspective that the social structure, as it exists, is the root cause for social ills.  The overall tone of them is that the social structure is organized and enforces policies that are inherently unfair to some members of society and that the only way to solve the resulting social problems is to change the social structure.  This is the reason for the "critical" label; these theories are being critical of the social structure.
