What is currency is best to take to Mexico Peso or American Dollars?

Also how much for a 1 week all inclusive should we take its for two 21 year olds who will be clubbing every night? We are also planning to go on the Jungle Tour, Waterpark and swim with dolphins. Thanks!

Just to support the answer which suggests to use the ATMs in Mexico with your Debit Card. You will get a better rate than the airport or Mexican Money exchangers.

I usually take a small amount with me of American dollars (about $100) and then exchange it when i get to Mexico. Then my husband wires the rest of my vacay money when i am there. I go to visit his family about once every 6-12 months. I would suggest travelers checks in about $100 increments that you can cash as needed. I wouldnt carry alot of cash at any given time. i would suggest a credit card, but I am not sure how widely they are accepted, I am usually in a non-touristy area, so i am not sure about touristy areas.

Take a small amount of USD, say $100.  Every bank machine will give you pesos and tie in to your bank, and it's very safe.

Take out 3-4,000 pesos at a time, no more. They are bulky and $500MXN (Peso note) is hard to change, think $50 USD.

With all-inclusive you will only be buying drinks  and taking taxis. Buy souvenirs !

Take a $100-200 USD and use your Bankcard at the Automatic tellers at a bank.  Best rate on your bank card and if you use a card with the same type of card (eg Interac) you avoid an extra $5 transcation fee.

You ask for amounts in pesos and money is dispensed in pesos. Most machines will dispense bills from 10 to 200 pesos.  I usally take out 3000 or 4000 pesos per time as that is usually the maximum daily limit at a teller.

A couple 1000s bcks to be on the safe side. It helps to keep a lot of lose pesos because many locals will help you alot better like cops and getting directions. Take both
