I'll be spending time in Madrid this summer, and I don't want to stick out as an American tourist. What is in style for early-20s women?

Este verano voy a vivir en Madrid por un rato, y no quiero parecer una turista americana. ¿Qué tipo de ropa está de moda para una mujer de mas o menos 20 años?

  1. The style in Madrid is anything goes! There are people from all over the world and with all different backgrounds living in Madrid, and unless you are blatantly yelling in English, with a camera around your neck, you probably won't be picked out as an American. But, Mullets (I know, very wierd!) are very popular in Spain, when I lived there (I just got back a month ago) there were so many people with a mullet.

  2. don´t wear white socks with sandals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Im spanish, living in Michigan right now and I can tell you there are a couple of things that could make you look like a tourist.

First mistake:  Sandals and socks, absolutly NOT. Everybody will know you are a tourist if you wear socks with your sandals.

Second mistake: Try to not look like a lobster...

Third mistake: Dont buy the typical bullfighting or flamenco souvenir and wear it wherever you go...

Other than that, clothes and shoes are the same than here in the US... I would say a bit more expensive but I dont think nobody would be able to point you with their finger if you were wearing jeans, a nice top and a nice pair of heels or flat shoes.

Other thing I would not recommend you is wearing shorts shorts unless you have a size 2.

But have fun, theres a lot of stuff to do and see in Madrid. And fashions change so fast...
