I can't tell you what to do to prevent them, but I can tell you what has worked for many years, on my children, and grandchildren, to get rid of them....A tablespoon of honey.  Sip about a third of it at a time.  Don't drink anything til you are sure they are gone.  Very rarely one tablespoon doesn't work.  Then take a second one.  If you don't like the taste, hold your nose.

    I have also used plain sugar, when I didn't have honey.  A rounded teaspoon should be enough.  Just mix about 1/2 of it with the saliva in your mouth, then swallow, then the rest of the spoonful.  Good luck!


  2. Hiccups are caused by swallowing too much air. So if you swallow air while drinking or drink something bubbly (pop) you can get them. Hope this helps, and good luck!

  6. Don't swallow air while eating.  Second way:  think about your mental state and try to curb your enthusiasm and anticipation or positive anxiety when you are in a position to get hiccups.  They stop after relaxing and drinking water.  Do not aspirate fluids up the nose.
