  1. Transglycosylases (TGs) are enzymes that catalyze the polymerization of the carbohydrate chains of peptidoglycan (especially in bacteria).  These glycan chains are then crosslinked by enzymes called transpeptidases (TPs).

    Vancomycin (a glycopeptide) is one of the antibiotics that bind to transglycosylase (TG) substrates.

    Vanocomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) are a wide and varied group.
