    De Robertis, 176 First Ave. (10th/11th St.)

    Downtown Bakery, 47 First Ave. (3rd/4th St.)

  3. Are you thinking of Serendipity?  It doesn't begin with a "D", but it's a popular dessert place.  Also, Serendipity is between 2nd and 3rd.

    Do you remember the cross-streets of the place that you're thinking of?  Maybe another landmark?
