  1. the progressive changes in size, shape, and function during the life of an organism by which its genetic potentials (genotype) are translated into functioning mature systems (phenotype). Most modern philosophical outlooks would consider that development of some kind or other characterizes all things, in both the physical and biological worlds. Such points of view go back to the very earliest days of philosophy.


  2. Development is different from "growth", although many people associate the two.

    Development has to do more with an embryo and how it's body parts and FUNCTIONS are changing.

    The easiest way to put it would be the assignment of cells. Instead of just being a cell, a cell is told what it is going to become...brain,liver,skin, whatever.
