I have an Arabian horse and I am taking her to a show where I will be showing her in halter and in a hunter class. Someone told me to braid her mane using the diamond weave technique. So what is it, and what does it look like?

  1. I couldn't find a picture.. but it's where you make a "diamond" shape with the hair. You can either braid small strips or just section them off, either with pretty rubber bands or with small beads. Then take sections (if numbered from left to right) half of one with half of two and bead or band them together, and so on.. then start your second row and do the opposite. and it makes diamond shapes. Wow, that's really hard to explain. I'm gonna look for a picture again.. lol

  2. here in TN we call it basket weave. You band off the mane in sections, take the hair dangling from the bands divde it in two do the same to the band bext to it and join 2 of the spilts making it a diamond. It's quite lovely to see. Here is a pic for ya

  3. You should actually use a running braid. A running braid is an alternative to traditional braids for horse shows that can be done on horses with a long mane without having to trim the mane. For traditional braids, a horse's mane must be trimmed or pulled to several inches long! But for a running braid the horses mane can actually be several feet long! The longer the mane, the bigger and better looking a running braid looks. A running braid is put into a mane just like a French braid would be done into a woman's hair. But instead of taking more hair with each strand of the braid, you only add hair each time braid on the side facing the crest of the mane. The running braid is acceptable at almost all horse shows, and is actually preferred for some breeds such as Andalusians, Morgans, Arabian horses, and more.
