I have this question since long time.

Actually according to MARATHI horoscope I am a PISCES and accroding to my date of birth which is 1st Jan 3-4am early morning I am CAPRICORN. Reading about in Yahoo! I find that I have characteristics of both CAPRICORNS and PISCES.

Please help to find out what is more relevant (sun sign/moon sign) in your life.

I am totally naive about it.

I have found a girl who is Leo and whom I like no one other. I think she is the one for me. ANy comments on that

  1. Indian astrology is based on moon while western astrology is based on sun.

  2. On 2 jan. 1982 at 3-4am i.s.t.the sun was in sagittarius and moon was in pisces as per indian astrology.hence your sun sign is sagittarius and moon sign is pisces.

  3. sorry i would like to help you

  4. I am most familiar with Western astrology, and shall answer your question from that viewpoint.

If you mean you were born on 1 February 1982, your sun sign is Aquarius.  Your moon sign is likely Taurus.  I'd need to know where you were born to be sure.

If you mean you were born on 2 January 1982, your sun sign is Capricorn, and your moon sign is either Pisces or Aries; I'd have to know where you were born to be sure.

As for the difference between the two ...

Imagine the Earth suspended before you, inside a larger sphere.  Now envision marking the larger sphere off into 12ths, like the segments of an orange.  Now, if you are standing on that Earth and looking up, you'll see lines in the sky, forming 6 swaths of sky (the other six will be "behind" or "below" you, only visible from the other side of the planet).  Every star in the heavens will be in one of those swaths of sky, including all the planets.

At any given moment, one can determine where the heavenly bodies are, that is, which swath they occupy, and how far (how many degrees) along that swath they are.  You are concerned with the snapshot of the heavens at the moment of your birth; the sun was in its place, which we might mark down as, for example, 11 degrees Aquarius.  That means that the sun was about one-third of the way through the swath of sky "belonging" to Aquarius.

We use these names because the Zodiacal constellations form a ring about Earth, all more or less in one line, and each approximately taking up on-twelfth of the sky.  (Some take more, some take less, but in astrology we don't concern ourselves with that, we simply assume each sign has 30 degrees of the sky.  30*12=360, the number of degrees in a circle).

So your sun sign is simply where the sun was when you were born; your moon sign is simply where the moon was when you were born.  But since 3am in Los Angeles is 7pm in Tokyo, it matters where you were born: what the sky looked like at 3am in Tokyo isn't the same as what it looked like when 3am finally rolled around in Los Angeles.

That covers the astronomy.  (Realize, astrology used to be the same thing as astronomy until the last hundred years or less).  Astrologically, your sun sign is how you are outwardly; your moon sign is how you are inwardly.  So if you ever find something listing "How Aries people are", then that'll be a good reference for you, if you're a moon Aries, for example, just to know what astrology says about how you are privately, inwardly.  And there should be a thousand or more such references on the web to tell you the characteristics of each sign.

As for your crush, go for it.  There are so many intricacies in astrology that just looking at the sun and moon signs is no clear indication of anything; you'd need her complete birth data, and a lot of patience to learn the intricacies of astrology, to begin to guess what astrology might say about you two.  The best, and easiest thing, is to just give it a go.  Good luck!

  5. zodiac is divided in to 12 signs. In this twelve signs where the planet sun is posited is called sun sign and the planet moon is positned is called moon sign.Regarding love compatiability it is recommed to verify with birth stars (moon posited stars) first and next  verify with moon sign, and sunsign and lagna(ascendant) at your birth chart.Get a computerised horoscope you  can understand  details.

  6. Sun sign is calculated by the revolution time of earth around the sun which is 1 year.

Moon sign is calculated by the moon's revolution around earth which is 28 days. Usually in India we use moon sign

About your date of birth, it is 1st Jan according to Gregorian calender as they use 12AM as the date change time. But as per out Indian culture, date is changed when the sun rises, so the date of birth according to Indian culture is 2nd Jan.

So when you go for matching horoscope, take the moon sign rules of both or sun sign rules of both, but never mismatch the moon sign of one with sun sign of the other
