What is difference between answering a exam and playing in a chess tournament?

  1. Most (note I say most) exams require a decent memory.  You have a good idea what the questions will be, and how to answer them.  Chess is a strategy.   You aren't sure what your opponent will do, and there are multiple answers to every possibility.

Depends on the exam, if you are talking about for example the PSAT then I would say that the exam is more stressful do to you having only one opportunity to take it(while if you loose 1 game in a tournoment you can generelly still come back). If it's just a random test and a random chess tournament I would say the tournament is more stressful do to the length of concentrated thought being greater and the pressure higher.
