Cast iron is made by melting pig iron with iron scrap and coke using blast of hot air. Moreover, cast iron contains relatively lower carbon contrnt.

Pig iron is made directly from ore, coke and resin. It is the first step in iron production.  It is brittle and contains much carbon and silica. It is intended to be remelted for production of iron and steel.

Cast iron is made from pig iron and scrape metal. It is brittle also but contains less carbon  and less silica. It also has a lower melting point.
