What is digital and optical zoom?

But what is 2000x digital zoom mean? Does 2000x digital zoom is good? if is bad and tell me the better number of digital zoom. But what about the Optical Zoom? which one is better 15x, 20x, 25x, 40x, or more?

Digital zoom is meaningless!  Optical zoom is an indication of how close you seem to be able to get to your subject, but it needs to be treated with caution - as you zoom in the image gets darker and any camera shake becomes much more noticeable.  Any defects in the lens will become more noticeable, too.  You might be able to use 40X, but I doubt it - 20X will get used from time to time.

The higher the number the closer you will be able to get. So, a 10x optical zoom won't get as close as a 20X optical zoom.

2000x digital zoom means that it is taking the image that you see and cropping it in order to 'zoom' in on part of the image. This almost always creates a poorer quality photo with some sort of pixelation or graininess in the photo.

Your best bet is to look at just the optical zoom. The bigger the optical zoom the closer you will be able to get and still get a good quality photo.

optical zoom is the one you need to look at. Digital zoom does like what your pc does when you zoom in, creating a more pixelated image. Digital takes the image and zooms up on it. it is poorer quality than optical zoom.

Look for the optical thats the important one

Optical zoom is the one brought out with the help of LENS in ur camera... u can see the movement of lens back and forth to zoom in ... that would be a natural way of zooming and its worth to look into optical while geting a camera...

Digital zoom is also called electronic zoom ....where the image is electronically/ digitally/ the camera circuits zoom the picture virtually as we do in our PC (when using a picture viewwer)... the mmore u zoom the picutre goes pixelated ....

So decide upon having an artificial zoom or a natural one
