What is digital audio out?

behinfd my computer there is this red thing that says digital audio out...whats it for?

It's simply a different type of audio output for your computer.  Some external sources, such as a stereo system or a home theater system accept digital audio.  But it's probably easier to just use the regular audio output - the difference in sound quality is so small that it is not noticeable to most people.
