The English language is difficult, but not prohibitively so.  I know many people who speak English as a second language and their English is excellent, I also know a few native speakers whose English is poor.

100% agree with the 1st answer. A failure of mammoth proportion in the US population.

that it is truly difficult for anyone to become fluent in english if not already given formal instruction at an early age. This is because of so many changes not only in our verbs but even in our nouns such as die and dice or fish (which does not change at all)
