What is distinct about "g*y culture"?

In a question about LGBT someone posted this: "because we're a denomination within society that has its own distinct culture and history" Can you guys enlighten me on what's so distinct about our "culture"?

Outside of the fact that we generally date the same s*x, I really have no idea.  That term always annoys me.

OK lets see, we have our own print media (ie Out, Genre, the Advocate) our own slang (ie bear, twink) our own bars, our own denominational pride events, a totally different view on gender than the mainstream, a totally different view on s*x roles than the mainstream. That would be the culture.

As for the history, g*y people tend to be much more aware of which historical figures were g*y ie Alexander, Da Vinci, Alan Turing ect. and of course there's the history of the g*y right movement itself.
