  1. Ping has a long history of individually fitting clubs for the differences found in each golfer. In fact, it can be argued that Ping set many of the standards for club fitting.

Once you make the determination to purchase a set of Pings you will likely be fitted by either a Ping representative (while he/she is appearing during a demo day) or by a salesperson authorized by Ping to perform a fitting.

You can go to the Ping site where there is an online version of club fitting ( http://www.pinggolf.com/global_webFit.ht... ).

I've added a copy & paste version of their measurements for you to view. They include....

    1. Interview Process

Completing the Club Fitting Questionnaire helps the fitter understand your preferences and goals.

    2. Static Measurements

Your height and other measurements are used to calculate a starting point.

    3. Dynamic Swing Test

A fitter evaluates how your stance and swing affect the position of the clubhead at impact.

    4. Ball Flight Observation

Your ball flight tendencies and preferences are important factors in determining the final specifications.

    5. Monitor Performance

Since your swing may change over time, periodic evaluations can help keep you playing to your full potential. Our Performance Scoresheet can help identify your shotmaking patterns and tendencies.

Essentially, the fitter will measure these statistics:

    Your s*x

    Your height

    Wrist to the floor distance

    Grip size

The length of your longest finger (beleive it or not, it's true!)

Shaft material preference (Graphite, steel, etc...)

    Your handicap

Your typical ball flight (fade, draw, straight, etc...)

Distance you hit your 6 iron

The fitter may also have you swing an iron a few times with a piece of lie indicator tape set on the sole of the iron. By using this tape they can determine if the toe of the club is up or down as you swing. This is vital information as the lie of your clubs can make drastic differences in the flight of your ball. This test is, by the way, one of the key factors in pinpointing the "color" of the irons best suited for your swing.

All in all, the entire fitting time shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. It's worth the effort to be fitted (whether you are buying Ping irons or any other manufacturer). Not only does being properly fitted significantly increase the odds of you hitting better shots, but you also get the (mysterious) benefit of confidence that comes from not having to constantly wonder if your clubs are right for you.

    Hope this helps,

  2. They will pick the right lie angle (color), grip size, shaft type and flex, check for length, have you try out the fit, see if a different angle or length or shaft would be better for your swing, etc.
