Hopefully not many zoos are built to close to coastal areas?

  1. they transport and ship them to other nearby zoos, but sadly, most animals cannot take the trauma and homesickness of the moving process n they fall ill n get diseases

  2. The Audubon Nature Institute, a zoological park in New Orleans has the following information posted on their website "Our facilities are secure, our animals are safe and our staff is in place to address whatever needs may arise."

  3. Unfortunately, there is no general provision for evacuation.  While some smaller animals can be moved with relative ease - usually to other zoos - the larger species simply cannot be transferred with such efficiency.  Generally their only hope is to hunker down and hope for the best.

  4. Zoos have evacuation plans.  There was a series on Animal Planet about such a zoo about two years ago.  They were able to use all of their people to cage their animals, put them in trucks, and take them to a ranch far enough inland that they didn't get flooded.  I think one monkey managed to escape during the whole thing.

  5. They either have a huge barbecue for the public with roasted zebra meat.

Or they move the animals to other zoo's, out of the hurricanes path.
