  1. It's hard cider that's been fermented to dryness (by "dry" I mean not sweet).  You can buy it where you buy specialty beers.  Commonly available brands are Woodchuck, Hornsby's, and Strongbow.  There are other brands that may be available, but they tend to be regional and not necessarily available everywhere.

    The recipe for fondue calls for "dry" cider as opposed to sweet cider because the sweetness would interfere with the other flavors in the fondue.


  2. You're looking for an unsweetened cider (alcoholic most likely)...I'd look for Normandy. A French cider available at most better beer and wine stores.

    Aside from that Woodchucks 802. A more natural cider from woodchuck...and probably my favorite that they make.
