Dry floor or dry land skating can have two meanings:

1. In ice skating "dry land" skating can refer to using inline skates as a substitute for ice skates for practice and training purposes whenever ice is not available. Dry land skating was the beginning of inline skating.

2. The name "dry floor or dry land" skating is also used for off-skate exercises that a ice, roller or inline skater does without any skates on to build stamina, flexibility and strength. Some of these exercises or routines are done without extra equipment. But some may use things like slide boards. Either way, off skates "dry land/dry floor" exercises try to simulate skating and develop skating techniques without the need to wear skates.
