What is earth.........a living thing or a non living thing??? think twice before answering...

a non living thing that is  coverd with living things, to be a living thing you have to be able to reproduce ( i dont think the moon counts as reproduction) and be able to metabolise ( i guess you could think of the earths center that way), and grow ( i know it was initially a cloud of dust particles that was pushed together by gravity- i suppose you could count that as growing), hmmm welll maybe?

The earth is over all a non-living object like all other planets, the only things making this fact more disputable on earth being how it is inhabited by so many living things because it can support life. The earth is made up of patterns everywhere in its build, some of which we can trace fairly closely such as when earthquakes should occur and what weather should be during certain times of the year, but this is mostly effected by the geographical make up of the world compared to other planets and the location of the oceans and how the sun works in accordance with them causing weather patterns.

Although some might consider parts of the earth "living", they are all formed from inanimate objects and as a whole operate as an inanimate entity that is the earth.  Things such as coral are a part of the earth, they were living at one time, but they are just exoskeletons now forming the inanimate reefs that they do on top of the earth.

The earth can also be considered "alive" because it has an expected lifespan, like all planets, and it ages over time. This does not make it a living thing though for all of the previous reasons and because when something is made of all inanimate objects it can't be living (eg. our bodies, made of cells- microscopic organisms living on their own but together to make the body work as one animate thing)

It  depends on the context of use.

I think its better to call earth as a non-living object. We call the third planet in solar system ,EARTH. Its made of non-living materials. Life abides in it.But it doesn't has its own life.

Earth is sometimes called a living thing,due to the life in it and not beacuse of its own life.

The whole universe is.

Earth is just an atom with it's electron moon.

And the life running around on earth are just protons and neutrons.

It's all alive we just cant grasp it cause it never ends...

That depends on your point of view and I tend to go along with the majority of ancient cultures who thought that GAIA (Mother Earth) was alive.
