What is easier to learn how to surf on? long board or short board?

Definitely a long board.

Longboard.  Go with someone that knows how and if you are on the pacific coast, wait till summer when the waves are smaller and friendlier to beginners.  Read a little about surf etiquette IE: right of way and stuff.  This will keep the other surfers from getting mad at you and keeps everyone out there safe.

It's easier to learn on a longboard simply because there is more board underneath you.  It's easier to paddle (in small waves), it's easier to catch waves on, and it's easier to stand up.  It's not easier to turn but since it sounds like you're just learning, that's not an issue.  I HIGHLY recommend learning to stand on the board after catching the white wash and heading straight to shore.  Don't bother learning to catch the wave AND stand up - you'll just make the learning process harder.  Once you feel comfortable getting to your feet, then try catching the wave - you'll then have an easier time standing up at the right time.  Good luck and have fun.

it is eaiser to learn on a long board because it is eaiser to stay up on. most lesson places will start you on a long board.  if you are looking for a great place to take lessons try goofy foot surf school they promise to have u riding on the first time!

Get an indoboard to train your balance then get a mini mal. Bic boards are fun & you'll soon ripping on it. They're also handy for when the waves go flat you'll still be able to catch something!

Longboard is the way to go and later if you want to go smaller you can you first need to work on your balance. I'm a longboarder and a soul surfer.. Happy Holidays
