What is east harlem like? specifically east 105th street?

we are staying there on a vacation in march and its me and another girll...we're both 20/21 and we're going to go out at night...we're both very street smart and we won't be taking the subway at night and stuff, but, being young female tourists, is that area okay? we aren't really going to venture around that area much, just traveling to and from..is there a lot of random crime in that area or anything??

I would be very cautious about going there at night.  Two girls on vacation?  Very cautious.  Drugs and crime love tourists.

It's starting to get dicey there, but if you travel together and use the #6 subway you should be OK.  If you are clubbing at night, you should take a taxi home, though.  Fine in the daytime.  Look like you know where you are going at all times, and don't dawdle.
