What is eating my sweet potato vines and coleus?

Question

Many are reduced to shreds. Whatever it is is doing the same to nearby wood violets. I can't see any insects but they must be there. How can I stop this and/or prevent it from happening again?

Might be snails/slugs or maybe catepillars. If not certain I would treat for both.
