What is email ,is it a kind of paint ?

I remember when I was a child my mom's kitchen utensil ussualy made from iron coated with something called email (I hope i don't mistaken spelling it)

I want to know what is email made from ?

If it is paint then why called email ?

Enamel is the proper word ...

Its a thicker coat of paint that was and is very durable indeed..

I still have some of my mothers utensils which are enamelled..

I know what u mean it's not email it's enamel

it is a type of coating used to protect the steel

You're thinking of "enamel".  Real enamel, as used in cookware and cloissoine' is a colored glass which is fused to the metal under high heat -- not unlike ceramic glazes.
