it's more broad than you think.

my friends call me emo but i look far different from the "emo stereotype" (black eyeliner, black stuff, skinny jeans, peircings whatever)

they call me emo because i hate the sun and i enjoy the rain. of course they're joking but somehow i came to be known as the emo of my grade... lol.

anyhow emo IS a stereotype, emos are people who aren't always happy, are depressed, cut themselves, like gory and sick shlt, etc.

Its a bunch of kids that where the same clothes everyday. Thinking that someone will care that there emotional about a leaf falling from the ground. Now days nobody cares about it. Its overrated and labels are just weird. Except Camble soup labels. M m m good .

I'm not a person who choses to stereotype people. Based on my gatherings, the word "emo" is short for emotional. People use the term to refer to people who seem morbid, down and embrace a depressive attitute. "Emos" are often characterised as people who winge, complain alot and want to rebel against society. The typical image associated with "emos" is mostly black clothing, dyed black hair, pale skin, dramatic make-up, skinny leg jeans, studded belts and black nail polish. "Emos" usually listen to whiney, dark, morbid, low-key rock music and/or heavy metal.

Although many people consider themselves as "goth" or "punk"...others may call them emo.
