What is error checking for ?

when i go to my pc, right click on a hard drive and click on properties, then go to tools then i see an option saying error checking

whats that for ?

It is probably scandisk that allows to check and fix for errors on your hard disk. It is recommended to use it before installing new programs on your computer and also from time to time to make sure that your HDD is ok.

You should also use the defrag tool which is located in the same tab. This tool allows HDD to defrag all the data which has stored and it'll make faster.
