Guatemala was inhabited by Olmecs until about 2000 years ago, when the Mayans took over. The Spanish invaded around 1500 AD, and made La Antigua Guatemala the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala, which stretched from Chiapas Mexico to Panama. 99% of the Mayans succumbed to warfare and disease before the Kingdom vanished with independence from Spain in 1821. The indigenous ran independent Guatemala until the 1870's, when the Latinos took over.

If you are looking for a history of relations between Iceland and Guatemala, there has been almost none, which is unfortunate, because the Icelanders seem good at developing geothermal energy, and Guatemala has lots of untapped geothermal resources.

Iceland was discovered by and settled by the Norwegian Vikings.  A few centuries after arriving the the female population was very low because Norwegian women were reluctant to relocate there due to the extreme weather conditions.  This led the Norwegian settlers to run raids on the Irish coast kidnapping young Irish girls to bring back and arrange marriages.

The history of Guatemala is complex with evidence of human settlements existing as early as circa. 15,000 BC.
