  1. I agree with Alex - go to sabaudia and forget ostia! from Rome it takes about a couple of hours.

  2. It's a lovely town, lovely beach, but it's not accessible for a day trip from Rome, unless you have your car (but it's ab. 2 hours drive from Rome).

  3. Sabaudia Beach is a lovely stretch of coast, which has won the Bandiera Blu Award six times running (F.E.E. ITALIA FOUNDATION for ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION), one of the only three in  the Latium region. Go to the web site and get more details.

We often drive down from Pomezia, where we’ve been living for the past 25 years. A nice, quiet area, ideal for families, but also for singles as lot's of young people go there from Rome and Latina. We always go on a day trip. The only problem could be traffic on Friday afternoon (trip down) and Sunday afternoon (return trip), as the Pontine Super Highway can get very busy.

You should drive to the GRA Ring road and then down the Pontina Highway. Don't take the coastal road, it's very busy and cuts through lots of resorts.

Well worth a visit. Ostia is simply a non starter compared to Sabaudia, with it's Nature Park, inland lagoon and interesting surroundings, like the Circeo.

  4. YES forget Ostia ,and go to Sabaudia! The difference is enormous!

There is a bus that goes to Sabaudia from Rome (from a metro stop in EUR)
