What is your favorite big game rifle calibre and model and grain of bullet. What is your favorite varmint rifle calibre and model and grain of bullet. My big game rifle is the 300. wsm in the browning a-bolt stainless hunter with a 180. grain silver ballistic tip . I usually use it on moose and caribou. My favorite varmint rifle is the 22-250 remington model 700 sps stainless with a 55 grain.

  1. in my opinion overpriced guns and gear is not a big deal. i and plenty of other guys i know that hunt use there deer rifle for coyotes  all you have to do is find the fastest ,lightest bullet you can get for your rifle for coyotes. i shoot a .243 for both,i use 58 gr. for coyote and 105 gr. for deer works perfect for me and i dont have an insane amount of money invested in a gun that can only be used for killing coyotes

  2. a 30-06 bolt this chamber can handle anything from moose to prairie dog. through one gun. depending on the load can be loaded hot or heavy or both.

  3. ruger mini 14 is my favorite all around rifle

  4. Tikka T3 stainless, .308 165 grain BTSP . Deer, Hogs, Coyotes

    Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40

Colt Match Hbar AR-15, .223 55 grain BTHP. Hogs, Coyotes, Prairie Dogs

Super Sniper 10x40 fixed power scope.

If i see a hog or coyote i'll shoot them with the .308 if it's handy but if im purposely out hunting them i bring the .223. They're such huge pests and there are so many of them that it's too expensive for me to use .308 regularly.

  5. My favorite big game rifle is my Ruger #1-H lever-action breech loader.  It is equipped with a Burris short-magnum 4x scope, 23" barrel classic blue steel and walnut stock chambered in .4-5-8 Winchester Magnum.  I use the 400 grain Federal Premium hunting ammo to hunt 400+ lb. wild boar.

My favorite varmint rifle is also my favorite deer rifle:  A Remington 700 ADL (purchased new in 1974 for less than $120).  It is chambered in .25-06 Remington which really is more of a deer caliber than strictly a varmint round.  It has a 24" barrel and a 3x9 variable scope.   I use the 120 grain rounds for deer but am going to try the 115 Winchester Silvertip Ballistic round this coming season.  I just use the same ammo for varmint as usually varmint are just targets of opportunity for me.  I don't even shoot coyote unless they've become diseased or pesky bothering livestock or pets.

  6. Remington Model 721, one of the first ones they made in 1948 in 30-06 because you have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from with it.* From Varmints to any North American Big Game.* I use the 180 grain boat-tail match soft point bullet for Big Game, and sometimes the 220 grain.* I use a Remington Model 700 bull barrel in 22-250 with a Redfield 20 power Target Scope mounted on it for Groundhogs.* I never aim for the body, always for the head, and I have harvested 100's of them.* The most I ever Harvested with it in one (1*) year was one hundred and thirty (130*)..I never hit one in the body.* I use a 55 grain pointed soft point in it.*

  7. For anything elk sized or larger, I like the 300 WIN Magnum.  For everything else, there is no better caliber than the 25.06.  It has less recoil than its big brother, the 30.06; and it seems to drop everything in its tracks.  The only real limitation is the limited choice of ammunition.  I do not reload so I am generally bound to 115 grains or less.  But, it is sweet to shoot.

If you are hunting dangerous game the above calibers are not very good choices.  You need to go bigger, but my experience with the heavy calibers is too limited to give any advice on that subject.

  8. Big Game: Remington 700 Classic, 375 H&H Magnum.

Sierra 250 gr SBT Gameking, IMR 4064

    Leupold 3-9X40 VXII duplex

    Coyote:

    Ruger 77 Varmint, 308 Winchester

Hornady 110 gr VMax, Norma 201

    Leupold 4-12X40 LRD VXII

  9. Big game rifle would be a Remington M700 Sendero in .300 Rem. Ultra Mag, capable of easily taking anything in N. America, and at extreme distances if required.  Varmint rifle would be the Ruger M77 heavy barreled stainless with the laminated stock, in .22-250 of course, loaded with 40 gr. Hornady V-max bullets.
