What is everyones opinion on the phantom of the opera sequel?

i personally think the musical and movie ended beautifully and should be left at that. phans, will you see it? has anyones read the book? what are your feelings on the 'somewhere along the lines christine and erik managed to concieve a child despite no mention of them sleeping together in the original book or musical or movie' storyline?

Thank You! In my opinion, the story is so great on it's own any sequel will totally ruin the magic of it. I haven't actually read the sequel, but by the way it sounds, it's going to be horrible. Erik and Christine having a child? That destroys the whole point of the thing. Ugh! I don't even want 2 think about it.

I agree with you, that the ending of the book and musical are perfect and should be left the way they are.

But the sequel is said to be based on Frederick Forsyth's Phantom of Manhattan, which I have also read.

It is a very different story and so many people hate it...i don't hate it, but I don't agree with it.

Forsyth states in his introduction that Gaston Leroux was "wrong" about the Phantom and all of this other nonsense. Gaston Leroux WROTE the book, how could he be wrong?!?

As for the whole 'child' thing..in Susan Kay's Phantom they had s*x and Christine realized soon after that she was pregnant...but not with Raoul's child, with Erik's. So I don't know if that's where the child thing comes from, but in Forsyth's book her son...Pierre...i think his name is, is Erik's child and he chooses to stay with Erik, his true father, instead of Raoul, the man who raised him.

I have read all of the Phantom books I could get my hands on and I have seen all of the movies that came before the 2004 one.

I am a huge Phanatic...and despite the fact that I don't agree with the sequel completely, I will go and see it because I can't stay away from anything that has to do with Phantom.

I am not a Leroux "purist" and I have an open mind to all things Phantom.......that is my opinion anyway.

I personally dislike the idea of a sequel in general, and a sequel based on PoM in particular.

I really disliked the PoM book. Its Erik just didn't have the "it" that I love in Eriks. For one thing, he didn't scare me at all. He was just too...normal. And Erik should NOT be normal. I also think the idea of a child is too weird, especially since Erik and Christine were never even hinted to have s*x.

And PoM or no PoM, I like Phantom ending how it does! I like that Raoul and Christine got a happy ending! I like that Erik was redeemed by Christine! The story is fine the way it is, and doesn't need a sequel, in my opinion.

WHAT! there gunna have a kid. okay not only is that not cool, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE! it is made very clear that the phantom lays her down when she passes out and then WALKS AWAY! and there is no time for her to umm ya with him in the short time it shows raoul during down once more. that is soooo stupid i am a huge supporter of the raoul/christine relationship. i will probobly want to see it cuz weber will probobly make it okay but i am nervois for it!
