Does the place's appearance help in letting my child feel comfortable there?

And what should I as a mother do to ensure that my child is receiving good care? Could there be a PTA in a kindergarten?

  1. Just look around, get a feel of the place, ask your child if they are happy there and if they like their teachers. Trust your instincts and make sure the teachers are friendly :)

and don't be afraid to ask as many many 100's of questions to the teachers about what your child will be doing throughout the day and what the provisions are. It's their job to make you feel comfortable to let your child stay in their care.

Remember they need you just as much as you need them. :)

  2. I would say a big percent of schools would jump at the chance to have parents come in and help and expecially in Kindergarten. I say just go with your gut feelings. Check it out and ask lots of questions. Kindy Teachers welcome questions and actually appreciate parents that care enough to be concerned.

  3. A class room should look and feel welcoming.  Lots of cheerful color, adequate space, clean and organized.  When you walk in, would you want to spend time there?

Volunteer in your child's room as a room mom, or an aide.

Ask your child specific questions about his school...  What was your favorite thing you did today?  What is your favorite part of your class room?

Always attend the Parent/Teacher conferences that will be scheduled!  Be prepared with any questions or concerns you may have.  And be open to hearing what the teacher is sharing with you about your child.

  4. The PTA is for the whole elementary, not just for kindergarten.

It would be nice to have a teacher who allows you to come in and help out once in a while . . . kind of like being a "room mother."  Some schools have these, and in some you have to kind of ask to do it.

  5. kind caring teachers that don't make him uncomfortable.
