What is eye degree? What does it mean to have an eye degree of 2.0?

  1. In the far East, power of glasses is specified in degree, in North America and Europe it is specified in dioptres.   One hundred degrees is 1.0D

    So I think you have your systems mixed,  2.0 should be 200 degrees.

    These numbers have no particular meaning, no more than "inch" or "metre" has meaning.  Degrees and dioptres specify how the lens focuses light, inch and metre specify a size of object.

    An inch is a specific distance.  One hundred degrees is the lens power required to focus light from infinity to one metre.


  2. well optometrists measure in "diopters" or reciprocal meters.  if you are +2.00, then you're 2 diopters "farsighted".  if you're -2.00 then you're 2 diopters "nearsighted".
