It depends on who is chasing whom. A cheetah is faster for the first hundred yards or so, then it poops out. A tiger is slower but has more stamina. Therefore a cheetah could run down a tiger but a tiger could also run down a cheetah.

Here is a quick referance list.

Cheetah - fastest, built for speed.  Long and lean.

Lion - lazy and laid back.  Sleep 16 to 20 hours per day.

Tiger - built for ambusch. Strong in front muscles, and lean in back.

Leopard and Jaguar - sneak attack. Stealth of the cat world.

Cougar - leapers. Average is 30' leap forward or 18' straight up.

Easily a cheetah.   And here's one for you.... the pronghorn antelope that lives here in the western United states can run easily 60 miles an hour.  Yet the fastest predator in that area is a mountain lion, that can make it with effort 30-40.  

Why has an antelope that has such a slow predator evolved to run soooo fast?

cheetah....you can totally find this out just by using logic. tigers live in the woods (trees, plants, lots of obstacles) even if they where fast they could not use it. cheetahs live in plains where they can take full advantage of beeing fast...
