What is faster a single or double kayak?

I don't know a lot about paddling but for sail boats a longer hull equals greater speed.  I would think the same would go for kayaks.

The longer the waterline, th faster the kayak. We have a double that the seats slide so one can take it. We tried a single of a longer length and it was faster. A short single would not be.

a single one, because it is more lightweight and easier to manage and carry!
